Vampires’ Curse by Lauralynn Elliott

Vampires' Curse - Libby Fox Trilogy

This is a trilogy of all of Lauralynn’s novellas in the Libby Fox series.  This was a great cover to design.  I’m thinking this is one of my favorites so far of those I have designed.

Below are descriptions from each novella in the trilogy.

Dark Relic – Vampires’ Curse

Libby Fox is just a regular private investigator, snooping on cheating business partners and wayward husbands. That is, until Adam Ryder walks into her office and asks her to find a missing person. Before she even gets a chance to do much investigating, it turns out that the missing person has been kidnapped to force a trade for a beautiful and dangerous artifact, and Libby’s job description changes to hostage exchange. But there is more to her client than she could possibly have realized, and Libby is drawn into a world darker than she dreamed had existed. Now she’s torn between the feelings she’s beginning to have for Adam, and the fact that he lives in a world she’s not sure she can be a part of.

Secrets of the Wolf

While private investigator, Libby Fox, is still trying to wrap her mind around the fact that vampires exist and that she actually has feelings for one of them, she’s drawn into yet another case where there’s more to her client that meets the eye. When Blake Harding walks into her office, hiring her to find a secret book very important to his family, Libby has no idea of the danger involved. She learns that there are things out there more dangerous than vampires as she searches for the Secrets of the Wolf.

Search for the Vampires’ Curse

The third and final novella of the Libby Fox Series, Search for the Vampires’ Curse, takes Libby, Adam, and friends from the bayous of Louisiana to the rain forest in Brazil. In this story, the search for the deadly cross introduced in book one continues. Meanwhile, Libby and Adam continue to question whether or not a relationship between them is possible. Will Libby take a chance and ignore her fears, or will she let Adam go for good? Find out the answers in the conclusion of the Libby Fox series.

Bartlett Rebooted by JJ Toner

JJ has released another one of his short stories from his anthology Ovolution and Other Stories.

Here’s the blurb:

A university professor gets military funding for a madcap experiment.

There’s more to this story than just what the blurb tells you.  After one of the professor’s colleagues dies in an accident he and another partner decide to “reboot” their friend’s brain for a military experiment.  This story is not all dry and boring about just this experiment.  There are several times that I had to chuckle with what ensues between the three colleagues with making this experiment work.

The cover for this story was a lot of fun to do…as you can probably see 🙂  You need to read the story to find out why this cover is “special” as JJ says on his blog:  Wild Thoughts by JJ Toner.

Happy Reading!

New Release by JJ Toner

Ooze by JJ Toner

This short story by JJ Toner is very unusual but I really enjoyed it.  It’s about the first contact between two very different species.   If you like a bit of SciFi reading and want to read a story that doesn’t take too much time you need to check this out.

This was a fun book cover to design.  It’s very simple but I think it is perfect for the story.  Sometimes simple is best!  Also JJ is so much fun to work with.  Check out his blog at:

$50 Book Covers? Oh my!

So, I really want to create book covers.  I’ve always loved book covers.  I can remember growing up and my mom reading all those romance novels and thinking how pretty the women were in their big flowing southern belle dresses and the how the men were so handsome in their civil war uniforms.

Wow, have those covers changed!  And now that I’m all grown up and reading them myself…were those guys really that HOT then like they are now?  Oh my!  *blushing* 🙂

Anyway, I started out on my cover art mission last year.  My friend was writing her second book and I was reading it as she wrote it.  (You think it’s bad waiting for the next book by an author?  You ought to try waiting for the next chapter.  Geez! heehee).  Anyway, while I was reading that book I thought hmmm….I’ve done some flyers before for different places.  I do them in Microsoft Word by inserting pictures and text.  They look pretty good.  So I thought, well, I’m going to play around with some pics that go along with my friend’s book.  So I created this with a pic she had:

After Detective Kerry Harrison's partner dies, she is paired with Ethan James who is both good-looking and infuriating. They are assigned to a murder case in which Kerry and Ethan disagree about the guilt of the suspect. Further research into the case causes them to find that there have been similar murders in other places and that the suspects are all members of a secret club. Kerry finds out that Ethan not only knows most of the suspects, but also has knowledge of the club. Their partnership and friendship is tested when Kerry learns the true nature of the club... and Ethan's involvement.

I sent it to her and she really liked it.  So I played around with it and made it all nice and neat.  Blurred a little here…played with a little color there, and there it is.

So, I did a few more covers with Microsoft Word and they were pretty good I thought.

But then I discovered Corel……and layering….and transparency…and….well you get the picture.

A love has been born.

I still love that first cover but now I think I’ve come a long way.  Can you tell a difference?

So anyway, since I am still learning and no where near up to what other cover artists are doing, I offer up my meager services to those authors that need a cover but just can’t afford those professionals just yet.  So for a limited time I am offering to do book covers (for eBooks only at this time) for only $50.  I can use stock photos from the internet, or pics the author has, or I can even take my digital SLR camera out for a ride and take some custom pics if needed.

Hopefully this will turn into a full-time job for me one of these days so that I can quit the (as Kait Nolan says) Evil Day Job!

Click on my Book Covers link to see more of my work. And if you like what you see and would like to contact me about doing a cover for you just email me at Anya.Kelleye@yahoo.com and we can start creating together to make your book come alive and hopefully jump off the screen for readers to buy!

Thanks for looking!

Need a cheap book cover for your eBook?

book cover

So if anyone is needing a fairly cheap book cover for their novel they are writing (for example for  #ROW80) give me a shout.  Right now I’m just doing eBook covers until I get a handle on what I’m doing.   Print covers I hope to work on soon.

I will work with you to design the cover the way you want it to be.  I can buy pics from photo sites or take some pics myself where needed.  Just let me know what you are looking for and I’ll help you.

I like to be able to read the book you are writing to be able to tailor your cover to your book.  If you are not comfortable with that we can work off a description you give me about your work.  No big deal either way.  Usually if I read the book I can sometimes add something to the cover that might draw a potential reader to it that you otherwise might not think of putting on your cover.

So just shoot me an email at anya.kelleye@yahoo.com with any questions and I’ll get back to you and see what we can whip up!

Goal for 2011 – Book Covers

29 Wednesday Dec 2010

Ok so many of you out there are setting your goals for the new year.  I’m going to try and focus on one goal.  I really enjoy creating book covers for the couple of authors that are my friends.  I would really like to do more covers for more people.  First I need to really dig in and learn exactly what all is involved in doing a cover the right way.

I’m very happy with the covers I’ve already done but I already see where I could have done some of them better.  I’m sure I’ve probably been taking the long way around to get these covers done when I’m sure there are many shortcuts to doing something a lot easier and quicker.

I also want to be able to branch out and do more than just ebook covers.  Ebooks are easier to be because, well, all you need is the front of the book.  I need to learn more about sizes needed, pixels, dpi…all that technical stuff I don’t understand yet.  Also, I need to know what the best program is for creating all this wonderful artwork and how to use it.

I’m not going to stress myself over this because I can’t afford to stop everything else I’m doing to just focus on this.  Can’t do that, I hved a regular day job, a nine-year-old boy (enough said), a husband, and friends and family I don’t want to ignore to do this.  Besides my house needs to be cleaned at least once a month….hahahaha!

But for those of you out there that need a cheap book cover and don’t want to have to do it yourself just let me know.  Just shoot me an email that you’re looking for a book cover and we’ll go from there.
